In Britanny a Bagad is a local traditional band, usually bearing the name of the town they are from: the standard formation sees bombardes, breton bagpipes, scottish drums.

Bagad Kemper (the band of the city of Quimper, Finistère) is for breton folk music what Led Zeppelin has been to rock. Eclectic, innovative and worlwide known. After having won all the main contests, they opened to new influences, extending the range of instruments, hosting musician from all the world and  every kind of music, becoming a unique musical phenomenon of amateur musicians (many of them have a daily work) with professional skill. Let me introduce them with so much pleasure, with this collection full of guests, inviting you to discover their incomparable works.

In Bretagna un Bagad é la banda tradizionale locale, solitamente porta il nome della città da cui provengono: la formazione standard prevede bombarde, cornamuse bretoni, tamburi scozzesi.

Il Bagad Kemper (la banda della città di Quimper, Finistère) é per la musica folk bretone quello che i Led Zeppelin sono stati per il rock. Eclettici, innovativi e universalmente conosciuti. Dopo aver vinto tutti i principali concorsi, si sono aperti a nuove influenze, estendendo la gamma strumentale, ospitando musicisti da tutto il mondo ed ogni tipo di musica, diventando un fenomeno musicale unico di musicisti dilettanti (molti di loro hanno un lavoro quotidiano) con una capacità da professionisti. Lasciate che ve li presenti con enorme piacere, con questa collezione piena di ospiti, invitandovi a scoprire le loro incomparabili opere.

Le nouveau Ulysse

Gilles Servat - Sous le ciel de cuivre et d'eau (2005) @ 260k

Se c'é una voce che può rappresentare la cultura Bretone nel mondo é quella di Gilles Servat ! Solo lui può coniugare la classicità della scuola francese con la musica tradizionale del Paese di origine (scoperto già in età adulta, visto che lui é nato nel sud della Francia). Gilles canta la rabbia delle lotte indipendentiste, la dolcezza malinconica delle stagioni, le radici vive, forti e profonde di questa terra incantata, con uno stile inconfondibile e al tempo stesso facilmente comprensibile ed assimilabile. Un invito a scoprire le sue opere con questo suo recente lavoro che affascina per compiutezza e poliedricità.

If there's a voice which can represent the Brittany's culture in the world, it's the one of Gilles Servat ! Only him can combine the classic style of french's school with traditional music of his Country of origin (he discovered it as a grown young man, being him born in south France). Gilles sings the rage of the indipendence struggles, the sad sweetness of the seasons, the living roots, so strong and deep, of this enchanted land with a style that's unique and easily intelligible at the same time. An invitation to discover his works with this late opus, of charming completeness and variety.

Didier Squiban - Molène (1997) @ 192k

Gwenn-ha-Du significa "bianco e nero" ed é il termine con il quale si definisce la bandiera bretone in quella lingua, ma, nel mondo musicale, riporta subito alla mente la tastiera del pianoforte. Didier Squiban, pianista-compositore classico, ama inserire nelle sue opere tratti forti di musica popolare della sua terra. Questa incisione é un viaggio alla riscoperta della tradizione e delle origini, dato che é da Molène arrivano alcuni della sua famiglia: un viaggio letterale, fatto imbarcandosi per registrare sull'isola e portandosi dietro un pianoforte dalla terraferma (ora in vendita sul sito dell'artista). Opera intimista, in cui la matrice popolare é più forte che altrove.

Gwenn-ha-Du means "white and black" and it is the word used to identify the Britanny flag in breton, but, in the musical world, brings back at once the piano keyboard.
Didier Squiban, classical pianist and composer, loves to put in his works strong strokes of his homeland's popular music. This recording is a voyage to find out tradition and origins, since some of his kins come from Molène: a real voyage, done sailing to record on the island and bringing along a piano from the mainland (now on sale on the artist's web site). Intimist work, in which the popular roots are stronger than elsewhere.
